What You Need To Know

Here’s where to find some of the best gear out there that doesn’t make it into reviews

Why You'll Like It

Because we’ve been wearing it all the time this past month

Best For

Anything from running to hanging out to livin’ the good life

Intro

We get a lot of gear to review here at Believe in the Run. Sometimes we get a whole seasonal collection to review, but more often than not, we get a bunch of items meant for different purposes. Some nutrition here, a couple hats there, tack on some casual pants and maybe some socks.

If you’re like us, you probably don’t want to read a review about just one pair of socks, or a backpack, or whatever. But if we’re using something all the time– if it’s become part of our running life– we want you to know. That’s where this monthly roundup comes in.

Each month, we give you a list of 10-12 items that we really, truly love. Everything on this list is something we keep coming back to again and again. Maybe it’s the fit, maybe it’s the performance, maybe it’s just something we can’t explain. But at the end of the day, we love it, and we hope you do too.

Of course, we’re always looking for new gear to fall in love with, so if you have any recommendations yourself, please leave them in the comments below.

The Running Gear We Love Right Now

Meaghan’s Pick #1

Ciele WNSBTank ($65)

The WNSBTank has easily become a Summer staple. While Ciele suggests this shirt is sweat-wicking and intended for running, I love it for everyday casual wear. I guess the added benefit there is that if I decide to go for an afternoon run from the office, I’m already set.

Roka Rory 2.0 ($220)

The Rory 2.0 performance sunglasses are as light as a feather. The polarized lenses are crystal clear and work in both extremely bright conditions and overcast. They stay secure even when the sweat starts to pour and they don’t fog up. The best part is the sophisticated design doesn’t scream, “Hey everybody, I’M A RUNNER!” Roka is an Austin, Texas, brand cranking out high-quality products for athletes. I love my prescription Rokas too.

Soar Run Cap ($52)

I’m a big fan of running caps, but I’m also pretty particular about the fit and look. The Soar run cap is top quality, but also ultralight and breathable, and finally — a long brim. I’m kind of over the short-brim styling of 2018, so bring on the long brim. It’s still low-profile but with more shade. And I’m also a huge fan of the bungee system for quick and easy size adjustment.

Meaghan’s Pick #2

Skratch Labs Hydration Mix ($22 for 20 servings)

Now that the heat and humidity have hit Baltimore, getting in extra electrolytes has been a must. Scratch has always been a favorite of mine, and that hasn’t changed. Sidenote: if you stop by one of our Summer Hydration Tour stops, we’ll be handing out a bunch of this stuff!

Thomas’s Pick #2

Coros Pod 2 ($99)

I have been spending a lot of time on the treadmill lately, and I wouldn’t enjoy it as much with out the Coros Pod 2. I get accurate stats with the Pod 2 attached to my shoe. The best part is, when you finish a workout you have the ability to adjust the distance to really nail the accuracy. I don’t find it necessary to adjust it that often. Treadmill runs get uploaded to the Coros app and Strava with all the data, even lap paces.

REI Co-op Pack-Away 12 Soft Cooler ($35)

Trust me, it’s running-related. This is my go-to cooler for tailgating after summer trail runs (or any run). Perfect for a six pack and it even has a little front pocket for a bottle opener or wallet storage. The best part? It packs down flat, which is ideal for storing in my tiny row home kitchen, but it has toggles that hold a square shape once it’s expanded.

Garmin Forerunner 965 ($599)

Sorry, Coros fans, but I’m a Garmin boy — and probably always will be. After all, I’ve used Garmin Pay to grab a coffee (or a life-saving breakfast sandwich) more times than I’d care to count. Garmin also delivers all of its features up-front, so you know you’re already getting bangin’ battery life, premium materials, and long-term support. The Forerunner 965 makes everything a little sweeter — and more stylish — by adopting Garmin’s first OLED display, which is much easier to see in bright light.

Tracksmith Fells Half Tights ($98)

Yeah, you thought we went a month without picking a Tracksmith product, didn’t you? Well, we didn’t. I’ve been basically living in the Fells Half Tights so far this summer, and I love that they have a little bit of texture to them. You could say they’re ribbed for my pleasure — but you probably shouldn’t, because this is a family shoe. I also love that they have a drawstring in case the elastic isn’t just right, and the Navy or Forest color options hit just right.

I have a pair of the TS Fells half tights and love them. But I’ve only worn in colder months. How do they do in summer months? Especially for us that live in the south!

    1. Robbe says:

Humid as hell here in Maryland and the boys still love ’em, so I guess they work! Anti-chafing at the very least.

Meaghan signed up for her first marathon three weeks before the race, because it was $10 more than the half she planned to run. She learned everything in running the hard way. Now a USATF & UESCA certified run coach, she loves encouraging friends to go for big goals as she continues to chase faster times. She enjoys a hot cup of coffee, a cold martini, and making bagels for friends and family.

Ryan is kind of like Robbe’s Igor behind the scenes. He helps to compile and clean up everyone’s reviews, and finds time to get in a few miles of his own. When he’s not running or editing, Ryan writes and reviews for Android Authority, spending time with the latest tech and complaining when things don’t work quite right. If he’s not doing any of that, maybe you’ll find him nose-deep in a crossword puzzle or trying to catch up on an endless backlog of shows to stream.
