Opedix Men’s KNEE-Tec 3/4 Tights Review

I will start by stating that I believe compression has benefits. I know there are studies that support compression and studies that detract from the benefits of compression. What I know after several years of 2,000-3,000 running miles per year, compression works for me. With that said the Opedix products stands out from the crowd. Other companies make targeted compression, probably the best known would be CW-X, but Opedix designs their garments in a way that targets more specific joints and issues to support. You may guess from the title that the garment we are reviewing is specific support for the knees. Opedix sent me a pair of the $225 tights to review.

The Good

I wore the tights in temps from 65º-80º F and was comfortable. The support around the knee is undeniable. I sported the Opedic Knee-tec tights on 3 longer runs 16, 20, 17 and a few shorter runs. On the longer runs the reinforced knee helps with general knee fatigue. I had never really had any knee issues, so the support was nice but not something I needed. Then while I was wearing the tights on a 10 mile trail run, I stepped on a root and turned my ankle, HARD. Like many runners I kept running to get the miles in and probably made the ankle worse. Anyhow, over the next week running on the bum ankle must have made my opposite leg work harder and I kid you not, my left knee was giving me issues. For example loud popping under the knee cap and waking up in the middle of the night with sharp pain. So now I was running with a stupid ankle and knee pain. I decided I would put the Opedix to the test and strapped them on. The knee support worked and I had a relatively pain free run.

The Bad

I am a dude. Wearing 3/4 tights does not feel very masculine. If I had chronic knee issues than I wouldn’t care if a tutu made my knees feel better, but thankfully it is on rare occasions my knees give me problems. The price is steep even though the quality is there to back it up.

Conclusion

If you have knee issues the Opedix KNEE-Tec 3/4 Tights are a must purchase. The support and extra spring you will get from the targeted panels is noticeable and helps. I would also consider wearing these for Ultras just to have the extra support.

The only comment I have is about being a dude and wearing 3/4 tights. It doesn’t really matter. I believe it women can so can men if they want. And who really cares what other people think. Just go for it.

    1. I will wear them proudly.
