Intro

MEAGHAN: If there’s one thing I love more than a max cushioned shoe, it’s a good night’s sleep. So, I jumped at the opportunity to test the new Lagoon pillow. Lagoon launched in 2021 with a mission to help people find the perfect pillow, but how do you do that? For starters, you take a pillow quiz (if Buzzfeed has taught us anything, it’s that everyone loves a good, insightful quiz) and answer things about your sleep goals, issues, preferences, etc. The quiz then generates your perfect match and a couple of other good options. I landed with The Fox, which is considered to be the comfy and supportive option, exactly what I was looking for.

THOMAS: I like pillows, so yeah, I’ll try a pillow that takes a survey to match you to your perfect model.

BRANDON: I can’t stress enough how important rest and recovery are for runners. Without a proper sleep schedule, a runner’s entire training plan can go out the window, not to mention their mental and physical health with it. Lagoon claims to have solved these problems by creating pillows that fit your sleeping needs. All you have to do is take their nifty online quiz, and voila. After the quiz, I was recommended the Meerkat pillow — firm but with a high loft. Supposedly, the perfect pillow for me.

The Good

MEAGHAN: The Fox pillow from Lagoon is a perfect blend of soft and supportive. It’s filled with memory foam and wrapped in a bamboo/polyester blended cover. It’s fairly fluffy, which I like, but you can remove some of the shredded memory foam if you feel it’s too high for your head. I felt like my head would sink into the pillow quite a bit, but it reforms its shape pretty quickly. I slept on my stomach, side, and back without issue. Honestly, I’ve been loving everything about it.

THOMAS: The pillow works. I wouldn’t call myself a pillow connoisseur, but I’ve had my share of Goldilocks experiences. “This one is too thin,” “this one is too fat,” and in this case, the Lagoon pillow is just right. I sleep hot, and the pillow does a good job of keeping the noggin cool.

BRANDON: The Meerkat is soft, breathable, and offers more than enough support to keep your head and shoulders aligned for us side sleepers. Not only that, but the pillow is hypoallergenic and makes for an immaculate resting experience. After trying it out, I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the pillow felt and how easy it was to drift off initially. If I was having trouble sleeping, the Meerkat pillow is fully adjustable and allows you to add or remove the filling as desired. From my experience, it’s a pretty good pillow and one that I would recommend.

The Bad

MEAGHAN: I can’t think of anything.

THOMAS: The only bad I’ve got comes down to wanting to try all of Lagoon’s pillows to ensure I got the perfect match. I won’t lose sleep over it, though.

BRANDON: I have two knocks about the Meerkat. It’s not a cooling pillow, and it’s pretty expensive. The pillow comes in around $65, which can be a lot to justify on a pillow right now. Of course, if it ends up solving your sleeping issues, then it’s priceless.

This may be my fault above all else, but for 3 or 4 years now, I’ve enjoyed sleeping on gel cooling pillows. The Meerkat has no gel cooling technology. Looking back, I’d have prioritized a gel cooling pillow when taking the quiz to support my specific sleeping needs. Lucky for you, Lagoon offers a variety of pillows with cooling technology.

Lagoon Pillow Conclusion

MEAGHAN: I’d recommend the lagoon pillows to just about everyone. For $65, you get a pillow that’s custom selected for you, hypoallergenic, breathable, and fully adjustable. What else could you want?

THOMAS: Some things in life cost a little more, but they’re almost always worth it. Pillows, towels, sheets — as I get older, I realize treating yourself to good basics makes life a little richer. Take the plunge and get yourself a better pillow.

BRANDON: Lagoon pillows have found a way to tap into every part of the market for any sleeper. The Meerkat is a good pillow, it just wasn’t exactly the best fit for me. For around $65, it’s important to select the right product. Lagoon does offer a “Try Before You Buy” option, which should solve this problem altogether. If you are someone who struggles with recovery and sleep or just simply wants to elevate your sleeping experience, Lagoon is the place to go.
