High-end Heritage

UYN (Unleash Your Nature) is an Italian sports brand based in Asola, a couple of hours from Milan. And although it might look like a new name in performance running, the story goes much deeper than that.

The brand launched in 2018 under Trerè Innovation, an Italian manufacturer whose textile roots go back to 1950. It comes from decades of experience making technical socks, base layers, and next-to-skin performance gear. In Europe, UYN has acquired quite a reputation in winter sports for its innovative layers and support of national federations, and is now officially moving into running with Kymra.

Material Brand

Materials are what really set UYN apart. The brand has been leaning into natural-origin performance fibers such as Natex, made from castor oil seeds; Ariacel, made from wood cellulose; and Flexicorn, made from corn seeds. The idea is simple but ambitious: create gear that feels light, breathable, stretchy, and technical without relying solely on the usual synthetic fabric playbook.

UYN also keeps much of its process close to home in Asola, where research, prototyping, testing, and production are all integrated in the same campus. Something rarely seen in sports development.

Move Into Running

This year, UYN is giving running a more defined place in its business with Kymra, a line that turns what was previously a smaller part of the catalog into a proper category with its own material story, design language, and seasonal roadmap. The launch is also part of the Italian brand’s broader repositioning.

The new collection is built around lightweight road-running pieces designed for ventilation and movement. The debut line includes T-shirts, tanks, tights, short tights, and sports bras, but is expected to grow in the next season.

We spoke with Davide Tombini and Emmanuele Guiotto, members of the UYN team, to learn more about the brand.

BITR: For people who may know the brand but not the bigger picture, how would you describe UYN today?

UYN: The brand is built around three ideas: nature, innovation, and performance. We start from nature and natural fibers, then use innovation to improve performance. That’s the core of how we think about product. There’s also the Made in Italy side and the manufacturing knowledge behind it, which comes from decades of producing technical apparel.

BITR: And where does running fit into that?

UYN: We’ve always had running products, but there wasn’t really a collection structure or a campaign around them. Kymra gives running its own identity. It’s not just a few products sitting there. It’s a line that speaks specifically to running and will continue to grow over time.

BITR: So Kymra is less a one-off collection and more the running platform going forward?

UYN: Exactly. It has the identity of a collection, but it’s also the running line. Future drops will remain under the Kymra name as more pieces and layers are added.

BITR: Can you explain how the company is set up physically?

UYN: That’s a big part of how we work. We have the research, offices, and part of the production all in the same place in Italy, in Asola. Because the teams are so close, the process is very immediate. Someone from marketing can walk over to design in the morning, see a new product being developed, and by the afternoon, the technician from production can already be there with a first prototype. That direct connection between design, production, and testing really shapes the way we work.

BITR: That feels pretty unusual now.

UYN: It is. Many guests are surprised by it. You can actually witness the whole journey, from idea to product to testing, almost in real time.

BITR: And testing is part of that setup, too, right?

UYN: Yes. We do product testing in-house through our R&D center. We have different machines and testing systems, including a mannequin that replicates human parameters like heat, breathing, and sweating, so products can be tested continuously. We also have an arctic chamber for extreme cold conditions. A lot of that started with winter sports, but the same mindset carries into other categories, too.

BITR: What is the material story behind Kymra?

UYN: A big part of it is natural and bio-based fibers. One of the fabrics is a cellulose-based fiber derived from wood pulp. Another is a bio-based polyamide made from castor seeds, which can replace conventional nylon in some cases. The idea is to use materials that are lightweight, dry quickly, and feel good on the body, while moving away from purely synthetic solutions where possible.

BITR: What are the main launch pieces?

UYN: The line launches with core running items like T-shirts, tights, and sports bras. They all share the same concept and material direction, but the garment structure changes depending on what each item needs to do.

BITR: What is the technical difference in the product?

UYN: A lot of it comes from how we build the garments. We use circular knitting machines to create seamless or near-seamless pieces with different zones across the body. That lets us change elasticity, support, and ventilation depending on the area. So the texture you see isn’t just for looks. It’s there to improve airflow, comfort, and movement.

So What’s Next?

According to UYN, the next step is expansion. Fall-winter versions are already in the pipeline, including long sleeves, second layers, jackets, and looser shorts. UYN also plans to build visibility around key running events, including Boston, Padova, and UTMB, while preparing a separate trail line called Dolomia.
