If you’re going to be in New York for the marathon, then you MUST join us for our Saturday Shake Out Run with New Balance and New York Road Runners. We’ll be joined by a ton of amazing friends, including Kofuzi, Tommie Runz, Matt Choi, Carleth Keys, Meg Featherstun, Ben Johnson, Jess Movold, Run Like Heller, the entire Train to NYC 2 team, and more! We’ll also have amazing giveaways for the first few hundred runners, so get there early!
It’s hard to believe that we’re actually able to look at the weather forecast for the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon, which is just around the corner. We started this training in the sweltering heat of August, and here we are as the leaves change and the days grow shorter. It’s only appropriate we’ll be running our goal race on the same day that Daylight Savings Time comes to a close.
We’ve been getting miles in our New Balance shoes, especially the 1080v13, which may go down as one of the best trainers of the year. Comfortable and capable over hundreds of miles. Our bodies are tired, our stomachs are hungry, but our eyes are set on the goal ahead of us. Luckily we all made it to taper time in relatively good health. Time to ride this thing out.
See how our training has been going with only 12 days to go until we run our race.
Feeling 🥳
It officially feels like fall, I’m back to running, New York is only two weeks away… does it get much better than that!? I’m just enjoying miles right now without any big workouts. Body feels recovered from Chicago and ready for another 26.2… let’s go!

Another solid week despite having a cold and non-stop loogies. I love my daily easy miles, but nothing gives me confidence like the workouts. This week I had two solid workouts. Wednesday was 2 mile repeats at MP pace, followed by Saturday’s 18-mile run with 3-mile repeats at MP.
Saturday was great cause I got to do the first repeat with Jarrett and Robbe. We all split up for the second repeat, but we all got the job done. I have really enjoyed this training cycle. My fitness was trash at the beginning. I struggled on trail runs and any elevation. My runs feel more natural and smooth lately. I am still dealing with some aches and pains, but I’m optomistic as we end this cycle. Only a handful of runs left before the big dance.

Feeling ⛰
My biggest week of this training block was capped off with a 20-mile long run with Thomas and Jarrett. Felt great overall, and I have to say, this is the best I’ve felt in years training for a marathon. Dare I say– I’m actually excited to throw down for 26.2? I finally feel tired, my legs feel dead, which means it’s time to rest up and harness everything I’ve put into my body over the last 12 weeks. Now I just need to not fall down any stairs or wreck my bike or pull my back out playing soccer with my kids. Odds are against me always.

Felt back to my normal self, recovered, and ready for another marathon for the first time since the Berlin Marathon 4 weeks ago. Just in time for another taper for the NYC Marathon! Equal parts nostalgic that this train is coming to an end & excited for the massive celebration for 26.2 miles with over 40,000 of our runner friends. Get those bagels ready, NYC – we’re coming for ya!

Twenty miles? Solo? Who am I even?! I’ve used Hanson’s plans for five marathon training cycles and have always capped my runs at 16, so I’m letting go and trusting my new coach and my body to do a 20-miler was a little nerve-wracking. I can’t say I nailed the run 🤣 but mentally, it was necessary to know how to claw my way out of the dark space I found myself in at times. Super grateful for everything marathon training teaches us about ourselves. I feel more ready to take on NY!!

Over the training cycle hump and riding the mileage wave down. Everything was calm this week and on Saturday I took to the streets to run my 17 miles with Thomas and Robbe. Having people to run with makes things so much more enjoyable.

This cool weather is some of the best. Traveling across the country makes it hard to get in some running miles but as the NYC Marathon approaches, I am excited to get back on the east coast and log some miles with friends!

Final long run in the bag and felt good! Focus all week was on this final confidence booster and I am pleased I got 18 very wet miles done. Definitely is strange having done such little miles for this one because of the injury it feels really weird. Shifting gears with a slight decrease of mileage this week and focus on sleep and looking after myself.

Feeling 🤩
The air is crisp, the mileage is getting a bit lower, and the confidence is building. I hit all my goals this week despite my half marathon being in a literal wind tunnel. New York is so close I can practically smell it! The good smells, though. Only the good smells. I know I sound like a broken record but this is truly the strongest and most confident I have ever felt in a marathon training cycle. I’m ready to put it to the test.

Welcome to Taper Town! Honestly, I’m feeling good. Feeling excited, but staying calm. Ready to dance in the streets of NYC and really ready to party with the best people on the planet. Let’s have a dance, NYC! Also, I ran by Courtney Dauwalter on my Saturday long run and she said ‘hi’ back and waved and that felt very cool. I was fan-girling hard!

Good day everyone! We are officially two weeks out from the TCS New York City Marathon! I am excited to meet everyone at the shake out run and on race day. The key now is nailing down my pace, nutrition and hydration. BCAA have been the go-to and I feel so much better for my hill training and double digit runs. From one marathon to the next. It’s going to be a movie! Have a great week. Keep running and enjoying the journey. See you at the finish line.

Back up to full strength this week after taking a down week after the Chicago Marathon and I felt great, especially no longer dealing with a cold! I had a great workout mid-week capped off with a final 20-miler with 12 miles at or below marathon pace and I ended the week feeling super strong and confident heading into these last couple weeks of training. I’m a little sad this cycle is coming to a close but very excited to spend time with the team in NYC!

Another tough week finding time to run. Feeling good about the effort put in when I made a workout. Plenty of good days and a couple bad days. Goal is to keep running and figure out race nutrition and hydration since I won’t have a hydration vest.

Two weeks to go until the big day and I got my final long run in before taper time. Nothing stood out this week regarding my weekly miles but that could be a good thing, just getting in the miles. As the race gets closer and closer, I’m starting to get nervous and excited at the same time! More excited than nervous, especially since the shakeout run was announced. That will definitely be a highlight of the weekend.

Feeling 🗽 🏁
I kept the mileage low all week coming off the marathon last Sunday. I had a great 11-mile long run today. The weather was amazing all week but today was perfect. The fall run views are very peaceful. I normally run with music but lately I’ve been just enjoying the sound of the trees. The BITR Shake out flier was released this week and it’s some of the top runners and influencers pulling up. I’m excited to see how they run and create content. But my focus hasn’t changed.

Easing back into running post Chicago and I can’t say I feel good. In fact, I can only say that I feel horrible. Managed a 14-miler on Sunday to cap off the week and I’m hitting the taper again. Also solved the mystery of the nutrition issues at Chicago. Two words: rancid gels. Back to the drawing board for New York.
