Every once in awhile I will talk to a runner that is so high on a product that the enthusiasm sells me. Last weekend during the HAT 50k, Johnny Lyons and I were hanging out by The North Face display. Johnny kept raving about his The North Face Better Than Naked Running Shorts. I grabbed a pair from the display rack in my size. What got me intrigued was, Johnny doesn’t really get excited about anything except his cat, beer drinking, and running a sub three hour marathon.
Like most North Face products the garment is well made and uses quality materials. I expect that from The North Face. The fit and feel of the shorts are where the Better Than Naked running shorts stand out. They feel great and have two rear holster pockets and one center back zip pocket. The zippered pocket is big enough to stash a small amount of food, pills, or keys. In the three runs I have done in the shorts, the shorts lived up to the name”Better than Naked.” They are extremely light and almost disappear from your consciousness during the run. Johnny was right I am hooked on these shorts. Grab yourself a pair. PS – They come in 3″ and 5″ inseams.
It’s like running naked – only without the awkwardness. Using super-lightweight, breathable, and weather-resistant materials, the Better Than Naked™ Short provides superior breathability for long runs. Without an inseam, this running short eliminates any chafe-potential, but provides weather-resistance thanks to DWR (durable water repellent) finish. Storage pockets at center back accommodate energy gel/fuel.
Multi-pocket storage system at center back including zip
Reflective logos
DWR (durable water repellent) finish
Continuous seamless short liner wraps up to top of waistband
No inseam for increased comfort and to reduce potential chafing

Do they sell them locally? I think I need to have these but want to try on for fit first.
Charm City Run Baboo!
Just got a pair and did a trail run in them. These are my new favorite run shorts.
Going to be on the lookout for these!
