Two brands known for premium performance and unparalleled durability– Speedland in the trail running space and Ortlieb in the cycling space– have just partnered for a gear drop featuring the limited-edition Duffle 40L LDVL. 

We’ve been a huge fan of both brands for a while now, testing various versions of Speedland footwear since their inception, and cycling every day to work with Ortlieb panniers while leaning on the innovative Soulo and rugged roll-top Metrosphere for all our travel needs.

The team at Speedland has used Ortlieb duffels for years, moving gear from HQ to trailheads and ultrarunning events, so it only made sense that they teamed up for this one. The all-new colorway of the Duffle 40L comes in a sun-yellow shade, allowing it to pop against the traditional black duffles strewn throughout a bag drop or crowded aid station in the midst of an ultramathon. It’s also the same color as the Speedland RX:LDVL, an upcoming hyperformance trail shoe featuring a proprietary ATPU drop-in midsole and BOA Fit System in a lightweight package. The naming convention is a nod to the Leadville 100 trail race, one of the most iconic ultrarunning events in the world. 

If you don’t know, Ortlieb’s gear is second-to-none in terms of durability. Made in Germany, the Duffle 40L features a welded, waterproof, and power-washer friendly shell that holds up against any abuse. The rugged construction of the TIZIP waterproof zipper ensures a full seal. It can quickly convert to a backpack with padded shoulder straps and offers a mesh outer pocket for quick storage of essentials like gels and nutrition.

I’ve personally used their bags for hauling gear on a roof rack through pouring rain, transported a full bag of running equipment to Japan, bikepacked for days with their panniers, and commuted daily on my bike with their backpacks. The equipment is virtually indestructible and truly waterproof.
