Skechers GOrun 6 Performance Review

Skechers GOrun 6

The Good

Meaghan: The Skechers GOrun 6 is quite an update from the 5. Right off the bat, you’ll notice the upper has changed. It’s designed with a compression knit  (with various tensions) that gives the shoe a stretchy, soft, sock-like fit. It’s incredibly comfortable and will accommodate any foot shape/size. It’s also super breathable and light. The flat lacing system locks the foot in place and provides some helpful support through the midfoot.

The other notable update is in the midsole. Skechers is using their new FLIGHT GEN foam that gives the shoe a lighter, snappier feel. This midsole material can be found throughout the 2018 lineup but in different densities. Not much changed with the outsole. There’s a thin layer of rubber that adds a touch of traction and durability. Lastly, the weight… my W7.5 weighed in at 5.95 oz, nearly identical to its predecessor. Anything under 6oz automatically puts this shoe into a category of awesome.

Thomas: Man, Skechers GOrun has come a long way, and in some ways, the GOrun 6 still has the personality of the original GOrun. The soft, flexible, natural feel of the midsole is the defining characteristic of this model. Other than that, the GOrun 6 looks like a whole new animal.

The new upper is a soft stretchy knit that gently hugs your foot. Stick with your regular running shoe size, definitely, do not size up. I can hardly believe I am saying this after all the years I have bashed Skechers on the look of their shoes, but The GOrun 6 is beautiful. The simple clean design of the upper looks as good as it feels. There is plenty of high abrasion rubber on the outsole to add some grip and durability. The GOrun 6 has a 4mm drop and weighs 7.75 oz./218 grams for a size 10.5.

The Bad

Meaghan: The only real complaint I have about this shoe is the lack of support around the ankle. I didn’t have any issues on easy runs, but when I tried to pick up the pace (particularly around corners), I felt my foot shifting and wasn’t confident keeping any faster pace without that support.

Thomas: I am not sure if my taste in midsole firmness has changed over time, but the softness of the midsole in the GOrun 6 while comfortable also lacks responsiveness. There is no giddy-up in the stride. The upper would benefit from more structure. My foot had too much play inside the GOrun 6. It can feel a little sloppy. It may have been beneficial to try a size down for a snugger fit, but I fear that my toes would be jammed in the front.

The Skechers GOrun 6 Conclusion

Meaghan: I love the Skechers GOrun 6. I dig the look (I KNOW, right?), I love how comfortable they are, and I love that Skechers continues to make super light shoes. It’s the perfect shoe for everyday, easy running. I wore the GOrun 6 on runs ranging from 5-15 miles, and they felt great throughout. Would I wear these race day? Probably not. But if you’re looking for a super comfortable, neutral shoe the Skechers GOrun 6 is a great option. Plus, they’re only $100.

Thomas: The GOrun 6 is a big leap forward for the GOrun line. The Skechers Performance team has some of the most underrated running shoes, and they continue to improve the line every year. If you want a shoe that makes your feet happy and you are not concerned with picking up the pace, the GOrun 6 might work well for you. This is a comfortable lightweight, low drop, lots of road feel feedback, dare I say, handsome trainer.

  1. Steve says:

How is the midsole compare to GOrun Ride 7? Same in firmness or a little different?

    1. Thomas Neuberger says:

Softer more flexible than ride 7.
