This year seemed to provide more outstanding shoes than any year since I started running. The Skechers GOrun 2 is another top shoe to add to the list. With a new approach on encouraging midfoot strike with the “M-Strike” the GOrun 2 has a spot between Saucony Kinvara for feel and Newton Gravity for assisting in midfoot strike training.
Skechers GOrun 2 is the next generation of a serious minimal running shoe. Designed for speed with innovative performance technologies to promote a midfoot strike, it works as a great transitional shoe to foster a barefoot running experience.
This is a remarkable light weight shoe that feels flexible and cushioned on the foot. The toe box is generous with plenty of wiggle room. The upper is soft and pliable. Typical of all running shoes order a 1/2 size up. I ran several 20+ mile runs and a total of 209 miles in these shoes with no issues. If you like the Kinvara and want to try something different give these a go. I describe them as light, flexible, and cushioned.
The M-Strike may not be ideal for every runner. I like to alternate shoes. When I did, it took a little while to get used to the way the GOrun 2 connects to the road. I started wearing the GOrun 2 on back to back runs and the M-Strike became less noticeable.
I wasn’t sure about the color combo I received to review (shoes provided by Skechers.) I thought they might be over the top. After running in them a few times I ended up really liking the color way. Running in the early morning it was fun to see them transition into fiery bright streaks as the pre-dawn low light seemed to charge up the the fluorescent pigments. The GOrun 2 come in several color combos. The shoes have also held up really well; I am tough on shoes. I considered wearing the GOrun 2 for an upcoming marathon, after a tough call I decided I needed the mental edge of a true racing shoe. The GOrun 2 isn’t a slow feeling shoe, I even took an age group win in them at a 5 mile race. If you like the Kinvara and you want a shoe that is almost impossible to heel strike in, then GOrun 2 might be your shoe. Between the GOrun Ride and the GOrun 2, the GOrun 2 is much more to my liking.
