Quest for the Unicorn
In marathon running there are 6 major events: NYC Marathon, Chicago Marathon, L.A. Marathon, London Marathon, Berlin Marathon, and the crown jewel – The Boston Marathon. I am publicly declaring that I am now making qualifying for Boston an official goal. What does that mean? It means I will need to complete the Marine Corps Marathon in October in 3:15 or less a 7:27 minute mile for 26.2 miles. The thought of it alone makes my stomach turn. I have to make this a real goal and start pursuing it with full intentions of qualifying. If I don’t do it now, then when?
I feel the same fear I felt when I declared that I would sign up for my first marathon and the GORE-TEX® TransRockies Run. Both times I was able to complete the task. I am hoping that qualifying for Boston at the 2011 Marine Corps Marathon will be the third time I put a daunting challenge out there that I can step up to and achieve. I will have to “believe in the run.” Thanks in advance for all your support and encouragement.
Deep breath,
Thomas
PS- Congrats to all of you that completed this year’s Boston Marathon. Special congrats to my friends and dailymile team members Jeanne B., Brodie W., Andy O., Steve S., Peter L., Brian A., Melodie P., and Carol B.

Big goal, but I like it! Won’t know unless you try–takes some guts to say it publicly. Go get ’em, T!
Good luck on a very worthy and, I’m sure, achievable goal. I assume Coach Caleb will be equipping you with an appropriate plan.
You got that right! Coach Caleb will be getting me trained and prepared.
