Puma turned running into a rave (and we’re sad we missed it)

A warehouse, but make it cool

It doesn’t take much to get us excited about running shoes. I mean, it’s literally our jobs. And yet, when someone does something cool to show off a shoe, we hate to feel like we missed out. This time, we definitely missed out. Puma took one of the least-thought-about venues and turned it into a party atmosphere to celebrate its light, speedy daily trainer. Granted, we were halfway across the world (and asleep) when this happened, so we’ll give the Puma crew a pass.

What did they do, exactly? Well, they hosted a rave inside a warehouse to show off the Deviate Pure Nitro. Looking at the pictures, it seems like they had a blast. Puma’s first Run the Rave event brought hundreds of runners, creators, and just anyone else interested in a dose of Nitro and music into one space, celebrating community just as much as it celebrated running.

It wasn’t just a rave, though, either. Puma also recruited Chef Chey Foey to lead food activations, because you can’t dance (or run) without a bite to eat. Other installations encouraged runners to slow down and live in the moment, snapping photos and chatting with fellow attendees in between the miles — or maybe kilometers. It’s Bangkok, after all.

Oh, and if you feel like you missed out, too, don’t worry. This was only the first of the Deviate Pure Nitro launch events, so there should be others coming to markets around the world soon.

Pure Nitro, pure fun

While we can’t get you in the door to experience the Run the Rave event, we can give you the next best thing: A quick look at the shoe Puma is celebrating. As you might remember, we reviewed the Puma Deviate Nitro Pure not too long ago, and it’s a daily trainer that has stuck around in our rotations. Think of it as Puma’s answer to the Adidas Evo SL, just with a few tweaks underfoot.

Sure, it’s still a light, smooth daily trainer, but it uses Puma’s Nitro foam instead of Lightstrike Pro. It also rides on a layer of Pumagrip in place of Continental rubber, which we have to say is an upgrade. This is one of the grippiest daily trainers in its segment, and that’s enough to bring a smile to our faces.

On top of it all, the Deviate Nitro Pure is simply gorgeous. It takes Puma’s usual penchant for clean lines and turns it up to 11, stripping away many of the brightly colored accents in favor of slick, monochrome vibes. Meg absolutely loves the all-white colorway she got, and she rocks it to the office pretty regularly. It just goes with everything.
