A minimalist rework of the New Balance SC Elite V5 by District Vision
Monochromatic tones, suede accents, red contrast stitching, and a co-branded coin medallion inspired by a Japanese good luck token
$283, November 13 (District Vision exclusive); November 20 (global release)

District Vision and New Balance return this fall with their sixth shoe collaboration, reworking the SC Elite V5 racing shoe this time. The partnership continues to explore the overlap between performance and design restraint, delivering a shoe that’s tuned for racing but styled with clarity and intent.

The previous collaboration, the SC Elite V4, released in 2024, was undoubtedly one of our favorites; it was subtle yet transformative. In fact, it made the list of the best in Run Culture last year. In his latest interview on our podcast The Drop, Mikey Kratzer mentioned how he wore that shoe and caught the attention of some people at New Balance. It was also a shoe that many people slept on; it remained available for several months after its release before gaining popularity.
Having just released the new SC Elite V5, it made sense for the two brands to take a fresh approach, clearly building on and evolving their original collaboration from 2024.

Inspired, of course, by Japan, the new design places a strong emphasis on tactility and craftsmanship. Monochromatic earth tones keep the visuals clean while drawing attention to subtle construction details. The lateral “N” logo features a new design, overlaid with suede, and reinforced with red bar tacks for added depth. At the heel, a single red stitch nods to traditional Japanese finishing methods.
Available in two colorways, Linen and Pearl Grey, the collaboration continues Distric Vision’s minimalist streak, featuring a clean tonal look, a half-transparent mesh upper, and minimal branding.

The most personal detail, a removable co-branded coin medallion, references a good-luck token given to District Vision co-founder Tom Daly before a marathon in 2014. These details don’t improve performance, but they offer subtle signals of care and intention.
The shoe adheres closely to District Vision’s ethos: keep it simple, technical, and monochromatic, with a touch of extra flair.

This edition of the SC Elite builds on New Balance’s race-focused line. The V5 has shaved off weight and features a more aggressive, stiffer ride than its predecessor. (You can read more about the shoe in our review here.)
District Vision continues to build on its Japanese-inspired aesthetics with every New Balance collaboration. This time, it not only reinvents the shoe but also introduces a clear follow-up to the original 2024 drop, creating a long-term narrative.
The shoe drops in two phases: an exclusive release via District Vision’s site on November 13, followed by a global release through New Balance retailers on November 20.
