The last two years has seen a flurry of partnerships between Coros and elite athletes, from the limited-edition Eliud Kipchoge and Molly Seidel versions of the Pace 2, to a collaboration with elite climber Tommy Caldwell. During that time, Coros also picked up the greatest mountain runner of all time, Kilian Jornet, but he hasn’t had a pro model in the GPS watch line– until now.
Today, Coros announced the release of the Apex 2 Pro Kilian Jornet edition, a features-heavy GPS watch with a unique black and white color palette drawn from the untouched snow and igneous rock that comprise the landscape around Jornet’s Norwegian home.
The Apex 2 Pro is the enhanced version of the standard Apex, featuring all-satellite GNSS chipset, intuitive navigation with global offline mapping, 75 hours of GPS battery life, and access to free workouts downloaded directly onto the watch.
So what’s different about this limited-edition version? Aside from the unique (and may we say– very clean) colorway of the Apex 2 Pro, the package includes a standard nylon strap, as well as an extra silicone strap in the corresponding color palette. A bonus add-on is the inclusion of a lightweight and ventilated Nnormal run cap, courtesy of the apparel and footwear brand launched last year by Jornet. Owners will also be given the chance to apply for a very limited 12-week virtual training camp with direct coaching from Jornet.
Only 5,000 production units will be released worldwide, with a suggested retail price of $549.Shop The Coros Apex 2 Pro
To say Jornet is built for adventure would be an understatement– the man has set the UTMB course record, executed two insane speed climbs up Mount Everest within one week, and has wins at many of the most prestigious ultra races in the world, including Western States and Hardrock 100 (5-time winner). He also holds many Fastest Known Times for summiting some of the highest mountains in the world. That doesn’t even include all his ski mountaineering and duathlon championships.
The Apex 2 Pro excels in unpredictable environments, with COROS global offline mapping, checkpoints, custom route planning, and more. Here at Believe in the Run, we’ve been using the watch for trail run planning in new places and optimal GPS accuracy in enclosed environments like city streets.
As part of the campaign, Coros has partnered with Kilian Jornet to develop a 12-week virtual training program designed for athletes who want to go longer and faster outdoors. Only 25 spots are available for this exclusive coaching experience, where Jornet will participate in group coaching sessions over Zoom, provide regular feedback to participants, and work with the Coros Sports Science Team as they review participant data via the Coros Training Hub. Participants will get a tailored training plan, as well as community support, built-in strength workouts, and more.
Not gonna lie, we’re pretty stoked on the training program as our lead East Coast trail reviewer Matt Kucharski will be taking it on in preparation for the Laurel Highlands 70.5 ultra, a Western States qualifier race. Follow along as we detail his journey over the spring months.
The 12-week training experience is free and open to all athletes of all levels, application period ends February 17. Selected participants will be notified the following week.
