Asics and Nonnative release their waterproof collab boot
Jan 11, 2025
Asics x Nonnative GEL-YETITOKYO HI GTX
The new year just kicked off with a bold statement in footwear, courtesy of a collaboration between Asics and Nonnative, a Japanese fashion label renowned for its minimalistic and functional approach to design. Founded in 1999 by Takayuki Fujii, the brand has gained a loyal following for its contemporary aesthetic that blends utility, comfort, and understated elegance.
The partnership has reimagined the GEL-YETITOKYO HI GTX, a model that has evolved from its origins as a 2000-era “after-sports” shoe into a contemporary blend of performance and style. It was first introduced in 2000, offering recovery-focused comfort after rigorous activities.
This iteration elevates the classic design with modern features and a versatile aesthetic. Adding premium materials like rich brown suede and advanced technology such as GORE-TEX for premium weatherproofing. A major update is the QuickLace system, which makes the boots easier to slip on and off while adding a sleek, functional touch. Subtle branding and a GEL-cushioned midsole ensure that style and comfort remain at the forefront.
The collaboration embraces the growing trend of reviving archival designs with a modern twist. The rugged mid-rise silhouette combines the durability needed for nature hikes with the sophistication to complement urban wear. The Brown Storm colorway balances earthy tones with a cream-white interior, offering understated elegance. Added features like a lugged outsole provide traction for diverse terrains, making the boots as practical as they are stylish.
The Nonnative x Asics GEL-YETITOKYO HI GTX boots launch on January 11, 2025. They are available in men’s sizes and can be purchased through ASICS, nonnative, and select online and in-store outlets.
This is not the first collaboration between these brands, but the GEL-YETITOKYO exemplifies the exciting potential when running brands that join forces with creatives merge fashion, functionality, and heritage.
