Soaring to New Heights

Trail and ultra running combine the best of both worlds – the love of going fast and the appreciation of doing it in nature. The perfect blend of performance and utility while operating in full-on adventure mode. All of those things come together in the upcoming partnership between Altra, the trail-heavy brand based out of Colorado, and Soar, the British apparel brand known for their premium apparel and cutting edge technologies.

Releasing on July 15, the collaboration between the two brands seeks to deliver a full racing system engineered for speed, protection, comfort, and control. The capsule includes Altra’s well-regarded mountain racer in the Mont Blanc, as well as a trail racing top, half tight, and printed run cap.

The entire pack is accompanied by a unique Prism colorway, with splashes of bright colors creating an almost watercolored tie-dye effect. It’s both bold and understated all at the same time.

Soar is known for their performance; we’ve tested plenty of their gear over the years and can attest to the fact that most of their fabrics cannot be beat when it comes to weight and wicking.

The trail race top ($200) is featherlight (as racing tops should be), with strategically placed abrasion-resistant panels to eliminate/minimize chafing over long distances. An ultralight mesh comes across the torso to create an active cooling phase.

Moving down to the shorts ($285), Soar takes things to an even higher level. The race day half tight features RHEON, a reactive superpolymer developed from NASA technology. According to Soar, the textile stiffens under force to absorb energy, then relaxes for freedom of movement. Integrated storage pockets throughout create plenty of stowaway space for gels, fuel, headlamps, etc.

Of course, we’d be remiss not to mention the Altra Mont Blanc ($260), the carbon-plated race day shoe featuring dual-density midsole and a Vibram Megagrip outsole, essentially one of the best grips on the planet. While the model itself isn’t new, the colorway is a limited-edition, so if you’re a fan of it, then grab it while it’s here.

Lastly, the collection is rounded out with an Altra x Soar run cap ($65), which is lightweight and breathable as any run cap should be.

It’s been pretty interesting to see Altra going hard into the collab space, partnering up with brands like the Japanese outerwear brand And Wander, as well as ROA, an Italian brand known for their technical mountain performance.

The partnership also takes Soar– a brand that’s more often associated with performance road running– to the trails, a space that sometimes lacks the innovation and premium fabrics that are more often found on the road.

If you’re looking to pick up a piece from the collection, you can grab it on July 15 through select specialty retailers and direct from both brands.
