Running the 2023 New York City Marathon with New Balance
Some of the best runners and humans that we could assemble for a team
New Balance SC Trainer v2, New Balance More v4, New Balance SC Elite v3
Well, last week offered some cooler temps for us up in the Northeast, but we know the next week of training is going to be brutal, with temps hitting near 100F. Summer is definitely trying to stay around, but hopefully that just means we’ll gain some extra fitness to harness once we get those cooler temps. Just give us that sweater weather come race day.
This next week we’ll be running the NYRR 5th Avenue Mile in Manhattan and seeing what all the New Balance SC Elite v3 can do when it comes to putting the pedal to the metal. Stay tuned to see how we fare at the shorter race distances.
Check out each individual’s current status and follow along each week to see how we’re holding up!

What a week! I traveled down to Charleston to visit family but managed to get in all my miles. I had two workouts and finished off the week with another 22 miler. I’ve never hit triple digits in the middle of marathon training, so I’m feeling pretty excited about that. I’m tired, for sure, but more so feeling strong. 5 weeks till Chicago, 9 till NYC!

Finally a full week of training! I did as many runs as I could with the Faster Bastards. I may not have been faster, but always a bastard. I’m forced to stay humble while I am building fitness.

Summer isn’t going away quietly, but we did get some nice weather before the final surge of near-100F temps. While I’m keeping my weekly runs in the 5-mile range, I’m making sure to get every single one of my long runs in this go-around. My long run on Sunday was pretty nice, I headed up to Harrisburg and ran with a friend down along the Susquehanna River to downtown and back. Felt really strong throughout, which is a good sign. Feeling strong, looking forward to building up the mileage.

Hit that peak week for the Berlin Marathon feeling allll right this week. I think that’s the goal these days– hit the workouts, run the miles, eat all the carbs, keep your head down, repeat. We’re at a solid box of grahams a week at this point and I’m not complaining.

So happy the achilles is getting better! Able to handle more mileage and elevation this week which I’m extremely excited about. The long runs this training cycle have been easier to do than the shorter runs. I guess I just need an hour to warm up lol. Looking forward to the 5th ave. Mile this weekend!

Nyomygod. It turns out that running in cooler temps isn’t as exhausting! My week consisted of easy runs leading up to my Saturday 15 mile long run. I woke up super early and when I left it was 59 degrees. I hydrated well and even took 2 gel packets (BE PROUD OF ME, MEGHANN!) and felt pretty great the whole time. Ummmm, please for the love of god be nice cool temps on race day so I don’t have another race picture looking like my soul escaped.

Oh baby things are heating up! And I don’t just mean in training or that we are getting close to the 5th Ave Mile, but it is actually insanely hot outside right now. This weekend had a massive heatwave which added to a bit of a setback to outdoor running. But I am so pumped to be meeting back up with the Train to NYC team for the 5th Ave Mile in the Big Apple. Let’s go!

Really struggled this week with a back injury that has been playing me up ever since I returned from holiday! I took 2 weeks off to rest and recover and feel worse for it! Managed my way through the week which ended on a high as we teamed up with the guys from New Balance to take part in one of the big Half Marathons over here… the Big Half! Run on part of the London Marathon course and finishing at Cutty Sark, it’s a cracking event.
Despite struggling I had a blast as always and just hope that I can cut a break and start to be able to build. We have a huge week coming with the Great North Run which is the biggest half in the world and a big deal for me and the Club, so full steam ahead!

Not too much to report this week. Got all my workouts done but now realizing I accidentally cut my speed day short! Should have had 40 miles for the week. Despite that brain fart, I’m very proud of my 19 mile long run. It had a little workout sprinkled in on a very hot day (compared to the rest of the week) and I executed pretty well. Can’t wait to see the Train To NYC crew this week at the 5th ave mile!

Had a solid week of training! Got in a solid Tuesday workout of 2 x 3 mile tempo with a 1 mile float. Downside— I got attacked (verbally) by a super aggressive male driver in a pickup truck. It was dark, around 6 a.m., and honestly, he seemed angry and drunk. Really rattled me! But… got back on the training horse and kept moving through the week.
Saturday’s long run had a workout 4 x 2 mile aaand… I rolled my ankle in mile 1! Really crushing it this week, right? All in all, training is moving alone despite some unexpected hiccups.

Consistency is key. Each week I learn something new about what my body can really do. My longest run of training was Saturday. I did 20 miles! I felt amazing afterward. I was a little stiff but my strength got me through each mile and it makes me super excited about race day. The countdown has started, each day gets better. Each run we learn and with each day we grow. Have a great week everyone!

I’m really starting to feel the effects of fitness being stacked week to week and I’m happy my legs are still fresh enough being early enough in the cycle to reap the rewards! I had a big workout earlier in the week with 7 miles at or below half marathon effort with very minimal recovery time between intervals and it built a lot of confidence for me heading into a marathon paced long run this weekend which also just clicked. I know it’s early on and so cumulative fatigue hasn’t had a chance to set in yet but I’m enjoying feeling the fitness flow in the meantime!

Great training so far. Been consistent but not with my plan. Not hitting the mileage for long runs yet but I feel great with the effort put in so far. Had a bit of shin pain last week but have been doing cold plunges and cryotherapy to get ahead of some nasty inflammation. Looking forward to increasing the mileage. Week 4 🎉

This week was a struggle for me to say the least. Mind and body were not feeling like running. I can say it was due to work hours changing or maybe a nagging foot problem but I think when it comes down to it, it just wasn’t my week. I’ll be putting this week behind me and focusing on being consistent next week!

This week was all about surviving & hobbling my way through every mile. I did not feel recovered (probably because I didn’t do any of the recovery things correctly) from Hood to Coast until Saturday. So, naturally, I raced a 10k on Sunday. Except it wasn’t racing, and my legs couldn’t move, & I walked in mile 4 (I’ve never walked in a 10k in my life). I ran about 75 seconds slower than I thought I would but still had a blast. It was one of those races where you slow down the pace & just try & find the cameras for great race pics. Onward to the next!
