WIDE-FOOT JARRETT: I’ve tried my fair share of Diadora shoes in the past few years, hoping one of their standard-width options would work for my wide feet. Unfortunately, my honkin’ flippers have always craved just a bit more space. Obviously, the #WideFootFam movement is in full swing because now even the Italians want a pizza the pie. Diadora has finally graced us with the Mythos Blushield 8 Vortice… in wide.
The Mythos Blushield 8 Vortice is a highly cushioned daily trainer that excels in the comfort category. It features an EVA midsole with Blushield technology, an air mesh nylon upper, and an incredibly durable outsole.
WIDE-FOOT JARRETT: The Mythos 8 upper is made of air mesh nylon and feels luxurious. The tongue and heel collar are padded well, and the midfoot overlays provide structure. I think the wide fit is pretty good, and I haven’t had any issues within the midfoot or toe box. However, if you’re cursed with a super wide midfoot, you might not love the overlays. I think Diadora did a great job embracing the wide lifestyle for the first attempt.
The midsole is a light EVA with Blushield technology throughout. I noticed a nice forefoot cushion with a firmer and more stable heel. I would bet a large sum of money that the Mythos Blueshield 8 Vortice will last quite some time (although I couldn’t find those odds on DraftKings). The outsole has a softer Flexoft rubber in the front, and the heel uses a more durable Duratech 5000 compound. My pair is showing barely any wear, and I’ve been using it for both running and walking.
Diadora is great at making shoes look classy. Sure, my shoe rack has several dark blue options, but the Mythos Blushield 8 Vortice borders on lifestyle looks. It’s rather obvious that the Mythos Blushield 8 Vortice excels in both casual miles and casual wear.

WIDE-FOOT JARRETT: My size 10.5 2E weighed in at 11.9 oz. (337 g) and became clunky and hefty after a few miles. Also, the upper started to feel toasty. I don’t see the Mythos 8 as a long run shoe because of both issues.

WIDE-FOOT JARRETT: Diadora did a great job making a comfortable daily trainer that teeters towards lifestyle. The Mythos Blushield 8 Vortice is a good option for someone on their feet all day and walking around. It’s also a good choice for travel when you’ve got some shorter runs and don’t want to pack all the options. I wouldn’t pull it out for long runs, but I have no issue recommending the shoe as a hybrid choice. I hope Diadora continues with the wide offerings, as they added some serious class to my shoe rack. Now to convince them to make their heritage line wide too…
