What You Need To Know

  • Features the all-new Pulsar Trail Pro trail shoe and updated Phantasm design
  • Colorways are a nod to Ciele Athletics original 2014 collection
  • Both shoes feature Energy Blade technology for propulsion on toe-off and stability on landing
  • Both shoes feature Energy Surge midsole, an olefin compound that is both bouncy, light, and resilient
  • Both shoes release May 12 for $170.

EVENT ALERT: If you’re in San Francisco, join us on Saturday, May 14 for a 3-5 mile run with Salomon athletes Noah Droddy and Rickey Gates. There will be shoe giveaways and prizes and runners will be able to try out the Salomon x Ciele Phantasm. Meet at 8:30 a.m. at A Runner’s Mind! The event is free, no RSVP necessary.

The running scene is heating up with collabs, like the recent mashups with New Balance and District Vision, Adidas and Allbirds, and Article One and Ciele.

Needless to say, we were more than excited when we heard Salomon was teaming up with Ciele Athletics for not one, but two, shoe collabs dropping at the same time. Call it a tag team dream as they tapped into both sides of the running aisle, bringing fresh looks to the trail with the Pulsar Trail Pro while keeping things even keel with the Phantasm road shoe.

Both shoes are limited edition designs, featuring vivid colors and distinctive zebra and cheetah patterns created by Ciele Athletics.

Check out the full rundown of each model below.

SALOMON PULSAR TRAIL PRO X CIELE ATHLETICS

While we’re a bit mixed on zebra prints that have become the rage recently (see: Skechers Razor Excess 2 or the Craft Ultra CTM), the all-over zebra print on the Pulsar Trail Pro kind of hits us in the sweet spot.

Maybe it’s the earthy wine and black that’s a throwback to the original Ciele 2014 collection. Maybe it’s the off-balance electric pink and citrus orange toe bumpers. Or maybe it’s just because the shoe looks so damn… different. Especially for a trail shoe.

Of course, it could just be the fact that the Pulsar Trail Pro is an all-new shoe from Salomon, bringing the much-desired technology of midsole plates to the trail. The Pulsar Trail Pro features a stiff TPU composite plate (Energy Blade) that’s designed to give more power to the runner, creating a responsive and stable ride. A decoupled construction provides some flexibility to make sure comfort isn’t sacrificed to the gods of performance.

As for the midsole, the shoe is also built with Energy Surge foam, a super-springy and comfortable midsole which we were pretty big fans of in the max-cushion Glide Max (coming August 2022). Like the Glide Max, the Pulsar Trail Pro also features the R.Camber rocker construction to speed up transitions.

A mudguard on the side and gaiter keep feet protected and debris from getting in. A Contagrip MA outsole with an optimized lug geometry seeks to deliver optimum grip to keep runners steady and safe from slippage, even on fast and gnarly runs.

We just got our pair in today at Believe in the Run and will be taking them out shortly, so stay tuned for a full review of the shoe.

The limited-edition Salomon Pulsar Trail Pro x Ciele Athletics will be available for purchase in limited quantities on Salomon.com and at select run specialty and Sportstyle retailers in the US and Canada.

SALOMON PHANTASM X CIELE ATHLETICS

On the road side of things, the Phantasm features a cheetah print, which is obviously a nod to the world’s fastest land animal not named Sonic the Hedgehog (though Salomon does have already have a Sonic shoe; they probably should’ve kept that in the back pocket for later). The black rock cheetah spots pop against a molten red, much like the color in Ciele Athletics’ original red rocks edition.

In the Phantasm, Salomon seeks to deliver a road running shoe that offers a light, snappy, and super smooth ride for mid-foot and forefoot strikers who want to go fast.

Like the Pulsar Trail Pro, the Phantasm also features Energy Blade technology in the form of a polyamide and glass fiber plate with a geometric shape that helps forefoot strikers transition quickly from stride to stride.

Again, Salomon’s signature R.Camber rocker sole geometry is there to provide smooth transitions, while the Energy Surge midsole provides a nice cushion and energy rebound on impact. The upper is made of Matryx material—an ultra-premium, highly durable, mesh-like material that makes it lightweight and super breathable.

A little bit of mantra-making went into the sides of the midsole; both shoes feature quotes that implore runners to run their own race every day: “My pace is my pace” and “My speed is my speed.”
