Countless musicians share a love for running, whether it’s Joe Strummer, Flea, or Ben Gibbard (listen to his recent appearance on The Drop podcast). All rockers have completed races all over. Therefore, it came as no surprise when we saw Travis Barker of Blink-182 become obsessed with the sport, hitting the road with a bandana and cap combo.
Now, Spotify is teaming up with Blink-182’s iconic drummer and his Run Travis Run club to bring together music fans and runners in an energizing new partnership. Combining the thrill of a 5K run with a curated playlist by Barker himself, the Hit The Pavement event series promises to blend the passion for punk and hip-hop with the vibrant spirit of Travis’ running community.
The 5K series kicks off September 20 in Chicago, making its way through Palm Springs on October 5, Las Vegas on October 18, and wrapping up in Santa Monica on November 9. Each event will reflect Travis Barker’s high-octane vibe, blending his passion for music and movement in these unique gatherings.
Register HereAs part of the experience, Spotify is launching the official Run Travis Run playlist, an intense and eclectic mix carefully selected by Barker. This is a punch-hitting lineup, featuring tracks like Death Grips’ “Guillotine,” Refused’s “New Noise,” The Prodigy’s “Firestarter”, and my personal favorite– Trash Talk’s “Awake”. This, for sure, will keep runners motivated from start to finish line. Fans can also explore Spotify’s own Running Hub for more inspiration and create their playlists.
Spotify will give top Travis Barker fans in and around each race city early ticket access via email. General and virtual tickets go live on July 25, with virtual runners across North America receiving a commemorative bib and medal by mail. Notably, a portion of ticket sales supports CORE’s humanitarian relief efforts, adding purpose to the miles logged.
Ahead of race day, Spotify and Run Travis Run will drop exclusive social content exploring Travis Barker’s wellness journey and the inspiration behind his music-driven running ethos.
