The backstory

In 2024, without any real marketing behind it, adidas built a track out of stone and sand in the middle of New Mexico. Part installation, the event was a moment to celebrate their iconic line EQT (Equipment), which in the 90s served as the umbrella of sports apparel and is now being relaunched properly.

In the event 2 concept shoes appeared, the most eye-catching was at the time called Guidance 91/24.  An “experimental” running silhouette with the intent to influence future EQT design rather than become widely available. It made many of us salivate at the clean design, and now, with a slight modification to the name, the Guidance 91/25 is finally set to be released.

Testing Ground

EQT swagger and color blocking, refreshed with current materials. The Equipment Guidance 91/25 updates a 1991 runner with a clean shape and a modern build. The upper is transparent micro mono mesh with a ripstop overlay. The foam is a big piece of Lightstrike Pro Evo, the same as their elite racing shoe. A carbon plate is sandwiched between the foam. The shoe is definitely made for speed.

Catch me if you can

If all this has you excited, be warned: the Equipment Guidance 91/25 will be extremely limited. So far, there are only 50 units available per region through the Adidas Confirmed App. With little to no buzz marketing, the product has been available only in Europe and Japan so far, with hopes of coming soon to the US, probably waiting on the resolution of those tariffs. The price is set at $500, which makes it the same as the Adidas Adizero EVO Pro 2.

This launch is set for August 20, with a raffle already open as part of Adidas’s “Batch 000” program, which is reserved for special experimental releases, so getting a pair won’t be easy.

The shoe is clearly an experiment, a show built with the highest tech materials, but with the EQT design, which makes it probably not the best for elite athletes and too expensive for the everyday runner. Still one of the most beautiful shoes out there, and probably the holy grail of running shoes this year. A collector’s item.
