Fall is Upon Us

It’s officially here. Fall, the glorious time of running. When all that summer sweat pays off in effortless miles. Or not. Either way, the temperatures are dropping, turning those early mornings into dream-like runs. These are the peak weeks for marathon training as we hit those 18 and 20-mile (or more) runs, testing the limits of our endurance and trusting that it’ll go those six extra miles come race day. Training in the various New Balance models like the 1080v13, SC Trainer v2, and SC Elite v3 certainly helps. For the most part, we’re all feeling good and ready to go. And some of us even just ran personal bests in Berlin.

Don’t worry, we’ll have enough gas to run all five boroughs in NYC.

Check out each individual’s current status and follow along each week to see how we’re holding up!

Two solid workouts this week to boost the confidence! I’ve got a stop (and big goals) in Chicago in a couple weeks so the mileage is coming down just a bit, but I’m feeling really good overall.

I feel ready to be fully back and at the same time the body is beat up. My speedwork went better than expected and I had a great 18 mile run with Robbe.

This was by far my best week of training to date and I feel like I’m really starting to focus on stacking up mileage while enjoying the process. I capped the week off with an 18-mile long run with Thomas that started in the pouring rain but was pretty nice for the second half as the rain stopped and it warmed up a little bit. Felt great the entire time and was able to finish with two faster miles which gave me a boost of confidence going forward. Hoping to harness that momentum and push through this last month of training so I’ll be ready to go come race day.

Really peaked this week with a 2:49:55 PR at the Berlin Marathon, just squeaking in under my goal of 2:50 with an epic sprint through the Brandenburg Gate and into the finish. Shortly after the race, I got a text to get clean and come meet Eliud Kipchoge and ask him any nutrition questions I wanted– which led to my heart rate spiking higher than the marathon sprint finish. What an incredible human and what an experience I will never forget. I have peaked. But, already cannot wait for my rest days to be over & hop back onto this train to NYC!

Winter is coming. Ok not really, fall just started, but I was down with a fever and tonsillitis all week. In place of running, I started binge watching Game of Thrones from the beginning. Somehow I’m more confused than the first time I watched it. Looking forward to getting off the couch and getting some miles in this coming week!

The train training was derailed this week when the whole family caught a cold. I made it to the weekend and that’s when I decided it wasn’t worth it to try my long run with a runny nose and cough in the pouring-down rain. It’s been tougher on me mentally to handle missing my 18-miler, but I know it’s just a blip and it will be forgotten by next week. At least the team is crushing their week.

Taking things one day at a time, looking forward to race day! I have been doing a combination of running, biking, and cross-training to prepare for the NYC Marathon. Consistency is key in the next few weeks and I’m having a great time putting in the work.

BERLIN MARATHON BABY! Wow! Berlin was awesome! I was not ready to run 26.2 miles with my current injury problems but we got it done! I will have to scale down my expectations for NYC and just look to finish with a smile. Finishing Berlin has got me even more excited for New York and I just can’t wait!

My two big runs this week were in rainy conditions, but I managed to pull through. PR-ed the local 10k course on Saturday, and got my 18-miler done (despite being soaked) on Sunday. The other runs this week were fine. It finally seems like the weather has taken a cooler turn and I am HERE for it!

Another solid week of training! Still working through some energy deficiencies so I’m feeling good about training, all things considered. This train feels like it’s going fast so I’d like the weeks to sloooow down a little. Saturday’s long run had some insane heat and humidity soooo I’m ready for things to cool down here in ATX. November is coming 👀

It has been a great week of training with some amazing runs and negative splits. My heart rate is under control and so is my mentality.  Each week as the race gets closer the excitement builds to see the city, the crowd, and the finish line. For all those starting their training, take each run as a test to grow, live, love what running can do for you. It’s a blessing to be able to run! So get after it, it’s already yours. See you at the finish line. -Chef

What a week! First 60-mile week of 2023 and dare I say the legs are feeling good? Did a very hilly long run workout (over 1000 ft elevation gain and loss in 15 miles) with some marathon effort mixed in and didn’t die so hopefully that means the legs are being calloused for NYC. Big shoutout to the SC Trainer v1 for the extra cushioning needed with all those hills; definitely spared my legs! Next week is a little cutback for me as I have Chicago on the schedule as well but things are rocking and rolling!

Only was able to get three runs in this week. Hectic schedule and bad weather. Still also training for my last cycling race of the season, which hasn’t been going smoothly with the weather. All runs have been with the NB SC Trainer V3’s which have been love. My legs are finally in tune with the volume and very comfortable with everything so far.

Fall weather came to central Oregon this week and I’m not complaining. My long run was 18 miles this week and the rest of my runs ranged from 3-7 miles. One notable run from the week was a local trail race. I found myself leading a pack of about 5 other runners which was fun and challenging at the same time. I’ve found myself reaching for the Fresh Foam 1080 v13 more and more and I’m here for it. Cushioned yet responsive. With 6 weeks left until NYC, it’s really starting to feel real! Ready for another week of training.

Playing it safe! I mentioned last week that I felt a grab on my hamstring. This week it felt really sore so I backed off my mileage. I’m in a place in training I’ve never been. On my longest run streak and most mileage I’ve ever put up in a year. I will not have any excuse when it’s time to toe the line in New York! I will have a major this year.

Speaking of majors, I got into BERLIN but had to watch it at home this year. That really hurt to watch, knowing I could’ve been out there. All good, the show goes on. I’m grateful that BITR has given me a chance to get one major this year: the New York City Marathon! WE COMING!
