Sport Science Technical T-Shirts Review

Sport Science Technical T-Shirts Review

Jenny: What a cool concept of making a running shirt that can be worn casually, too.  It doesn’t look like a tech tee…it looks like a cotton t-shirt and feels like a cotton t-shirt!   We tested the short sleeve version and it’s soft…really soft and even new it didn’t smell like a tech tee.  Sometimes I feel like running gear has a funky smell even before the first wear…almost chemical-y.  I appreciated the length of it, too.  Recently it’s been tough to find a shir I was able to put in several miles under different conditions and came the the conclusion that it performed better in lower temps.  I sweat when I work out…a lot and early on it was very visible.  Most tech fabrics aren’t that obvious but with this looking like a cotton tee, underarms, back, stomach all showed up quickly.  The cooler the temps, the better it performed.  Not a whole lot to choose from on their website but it looks like they’re trying to get funky with some hand-dyed tie dye!

Stein: This shirt fits like a regular T-Shirt, which has positives and negatives. On the positive side you could wear this shirt anywhere and avoid looking like you just came from the gym. On the negative side it’s pretty plain, cut like a regular T-shirt and ends up flapping a bit on windy days. Despite its high-tech synthetic fibers, this shirt feels just like cotton and is very comfortable. I might even try to clean my sunglasses with it some time! This shirt falls short on wicking ability. Perfect for a cool spring day but it will get soggy on a hot one. Along with wicking, this shirt is great on a cooler day but really holds too much heat when it gets hot outside. I’d run shorter distances/times in this shirt, or use it as an under-layer during long winter runs.

Meaghan: I really like the overall Sport Science brand. The science behind their clothing is impressive, but they’re philosophy of “do more. enjoy” is what really won me over. The basic Sports Science t-shirt fits pretty perfectly. I wore this shirt on several runs ranging from 5 – 14 miles. It feels like cotton, but it’s made with synthetic and natural fibers that act similar to polyester. It absorbs sweat well, but it didn’t seem to dry as quickly as I was hoping. Much like cotton, the shirts get heavy when wet. I wouldn’t recommend the Sport Science shirt for a long run on a warm day, but if you’re logging anything under 10K, this shirt is perfect.

Thomas: The Sport Science performance wear T-shirt is the perfect shirt for lighter workout days or for people that prefer the fit and feel of cotton but would like the benefits of a tech tee. I am recommending this shirt for a 5k that I help with in August. The mix of hardcore to casual runners will find a place for the Sport Science shirt in their closet. I am hoping it is a shirt that is comfortable enough to wear even when your not exercising, that people will wear it casually providing more awareness for the race.

I’ll leave my 2 cents worth on these shirts. One of my Half Marathon shirts was a Sport Science shirt. It’s one of the few that I actually wear out and about. 1) it doesn’t shrink like many of the cotton blend ones do 2) seems to hold any screen prints without fading or flaking and 3) just dang cool (literally and figuratively)
