Jenny J. reviews lululemon athletica Gear

I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to get turned onto Lululemon but thank you baby jesus I have been enlightened. St. Louis has one lone Lululemon store and it just so happens that it’s right on the way to my kids’ school. I hit Lululemon Plaza Frontenac last week on the way to drop my little one off and I think I heard the angels rejoicing as I walked in. First off, there was a bowl of candy to my left. They scored huge points, without having even fondled the clothing. I’m not huge into yoga, so I made my way toward the back where the running gear was. There was a little island housing all the different styles of shorts. I swear my eyes went right to the perfect pair. It was like we were meant to be. They’re sizing is a little funky…a 2 is an XXS, 4 and XS and so on. I grabbed two sizes, hit the back wall to check out the tanks, because who can try on shorts without a matchy matchy top?! One of the ladies {Tracy} helped me find a couple and I hit the dressing room. First pair I tried, the Run: Speed Short fit like a glove. I instantly knew they’d be my next race short. They have an ingenious design with built-in bloomers and vented pockets below the waist and on the sides of the legs–the “openings” are sewn together, though, so nothing inappropriate shows. Here are the details from their site:

  • Our signature short-length, low rise technical running short
  • Lightweight & wicking swift fabric with 4-way stretch
  • Soft wicking coolmax liner
  • Low rise with smooth wide waistband
  • Continuous drawcord that won’t come out in the wash
  • Secure pocket for cards, keys & sport snacks
  • Flat seamed for chafe resistance & comfort

The top I tried on with the shorts was the “Push Ur Limits” tank with a criss cross back and adjustable built-in bra, which gave great support for the “girls”.  LOVED that one, too but since I’m on a budget and their products are on the spendy side, I decided on just the shorts.  Believe me, the quality is there and their clothes are worth the money.  When I checked out, I got to talking to the cashier {Shannon} and she said, hold on a minute, came back with a short sleeve “Swiftly Tech Tee” and handed it to me!  She told me to try it out with the promise that I’d come back and tell them what I thought about it.

Here are the specs for the tee (their website is under construction, so I couldn’t find a picture of the tee, but I’m sporting it in the picture below):

  • Lightweight seamless performance top with mesh venting in high sweat areas
  • Fits like your favourite T-shirt
  • Knitted with Silverescent™ for anti-stink and anti-static properties
  • Wicking to keep you dry
  • Seam-free for chafe resistance & comfort

I ended up running 13 sweaty miles on a treadmill to christen the outfit.  The tee was all I had hoped it to be–super lightweight, breathable and wicking.  The shorts were incredible, as well.  They were also lightweight, fit comfortably and never rode up in places they shouldn’t.  The built-in bloomers gave me added security that my booty wasn’t hanging out when the pace kicked up, too.  Overall, great product(s).

Lululemon had an energy cheer stop at the Go! St. Louis Marathon and 1/2 Marathon.  They invited me down to participate and gave me a tutu to sport.  Great bunch of employees/ambassadors you’ve got on your team!

About Jenny J.

Until 2 1/2 years ago, I swore I’d never be a runner and was even more adamant about never running a marathon.  Those were for crazy people.  I’ve learned never to say never and have since run 18 races with indefinitely more on the horizon.  It started with me watching a friend finish her first marathon.  Overcome with emotion for something I wasn’t even participating in, I was hooked.  Training started immediately and five months later, I was running my first half.   In another five months, that half turned into a full and I haven’t looked back.   Since then, I’ve run just about every distance from a 5k to most recently, a 50k.  Four marathons, two of them qualifying me for Boston, four half marathons, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30k’s, a 197 mile, 12-man Ragnar team relay, pacing a buddy for his 100-miler…the racing hasn’t slowed down and unless I’m unable to, it never will.   As a wife and mom to three kids, finding time to train isn’t always easy but with an understanding family and super early wake-up calls, it’s possible.  We make time for what we love.  A huge part of my improvement this year was due to dailymile.  A year ago I joined the site to log my miles and have found so much more.  What an incredible community of athletes where I have found friendships, encouragement and motivation.   I may not ever win a race, but I run for the joy of it and I will always strive to be my best.
